For me, all roads led back to family medicine. I considered OB/GYN and surgery before realizing that I couldn't give up seeing children, older folks, or pregnant people. Family medicine was the sweet spot for practicing my values, with enough procedures and deep relationships to satisfy my curiosity. I love being surrounded by excellent peers who share my passion for broad-spectrum practice and meeting the needs of our communities and patients with conviction and compassion. Strolling around the 2023 AAFP national conference, the possibilities for residency seemed endless! Although I hail from NC, I spent a long time talking to the folks at UNM and was intrigued by the wonderful people I met and the potential to serve underserved and diverse communities. Although moving across the country can be daunting, I knew I wanted to serve native and Spanish-speaking populations. Choosing UNM came down to population, people, and place. I knew I could serve the patients I wanted to serve in this location, with an amazing group of peers, in a beautiful setting.
