 Interests/Hobbies: Hello everyone! My name is Michael Folse. I was born in Baton Rouge, LA, but have spent most of my life in Mandeville, LA. I earned my bachelor’s degree in microbiology from Mississippi State University. I then obtained a master’s degree in microbiology and immunology from Tulane University prior to attending medical school at LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine. I have been pursuing a career in neurosurgery since I was 19 years old but have been around the field my entire life. My dad was a spine sales rep when I was growing up so I was constantly exposed to the life-changing technology of neurosurgery from a young age. My dad still works in the spine sales industry, and my mom is an attorney and Coordinator of Experiential Education at LSU Law School. I have two younger brothers, Matthew and Evan. I am engaged to be married in May 2026 to my fiancée Kirsten who is a meteorologist for the National Weather Service. Outside of medicine, I enjoy music, trying new foods, history, and learning new languages. I also enjoy everything outdoors, and Kirsten and I are very excited to experience hiking, skiing, and exploring the beautiful New Mexico outdoors. I am truly honored and privileged to be joining the Department of Neurosurgery here at UNM, and I look forward to meeting and working with all of you!
