Advancing the Field of Orthopaedics Through Research

Director's Message

Deana Mercer, MDWelcome to the Research section of UNM Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation's website. At UNM Orthopaedics, we are dedicated to advancing the field of orthopaedics through research. Our Research Team takes pride in the fact that US News and World Report has ranked UNM School of Medicine one of the top 100 medical schools for research.

At UNM Orthopaedics we average 45 research projects per year. These projects include UNM and multi-center clinical investigations, soft and hard tissue biomechanical testing, computational finite element modeling, and quality improvement.

As part of our graduate medical education program objectives, resident physicians are required to complete two research projects. Each of our five fellows are required to complete one research project annually. Selected projects should emphasize their subspecialty area of interest.
