The Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship provides outstanding training in evidence-based care for critically ill newborns.
The UNM Special Baby Clinic is held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month at Carrie Tingley Hospital. Periodic interdisciplinary developmental follow-up for infants at high risk and their families is provided through Special Baby Clinic. Assessments typically are scheduled for infants at 2- 4 months, 9-10 months, 14-18 months, 2 years and 3 years (corrected age for infants born preterm), although this schedule may vary greatly depending on patient or family needs.
As development unfolds, infants are referred to other agencies, programs and systems as necessary. We have excellent collaborative relationships with many early intervention programs around the state. Our clinic is family-centered. When families must travel long distances, we attempt to coordinate their Special Baby Clinic appointment with other UNM Medical Center appointments such as ophthalmology, audiology or neurology.
Our clinical and administrative staff are augmented by medical and developmental staff from other programs including UNM Carrie Tingley Hospital, Children's Hospital, the Department of Pediatrics, the Division of Neonatology, the UNM Occupational Therapy Program and the statewide non-profit Parents Reaching Out Program. The Multidisciplinary Special Baby Clinic staff includes:
Our Developmental Care team is happy to provide evaluation and developmental follow up of at-risk children from all over the state of New Mexico at our Special Baby Clinic.
