The University of New Mexico Neonatology Outreach Program is designed to improve outcomes by providing clinical education to healthcare providers who practice in the State of New Mexico.
An educational experience for physicians to learn intensive care practices along side the neonatal intensive care medical team at UNM Children’s Hospital. This program is coordinated in conjunction with Continuing Medical Education & Professional Development.

American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation Program
The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is an educational program that introduces the concepts and basic skills of neonatal resuscitation. It has been designed to teach an evidence-based course to further understand the causes, prevention, and management of mild to severe neonatal asphyxia which is carefully explained so that health care professionals develop optimal knowledge and skill in resuscitation.
The Outreach Program is committed to the support of NRP courses throughout NM boundaries. The NRP Providers Course is a 4.0 hour class that is offered throughout the year to maintain a base of providers at each institution/hospital. An online test must be completed prior to attendance and can be found at the AAP NRP website. Online completion certificate must be provided at the beginning of the class.

Cost: There is a small fee for the online test through AAP. You will not be able to attend class without providing the online certificate
American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation Program
This class is a two day course for the current NRP Provider applying to become an NRP Instructor. The first day focuses on the logistics of being an NRP Instructor. The second day is comprised of applying instructor techniques within a Providers class. The instructor must show competence when teaching the 8.0 hour new NRP Provider Course.
Target Audience: MD, PA, NNP, RN, LPN
Cost: Registration Fee: $200.00. This will be refunded to the participant upon his or her arrival at the course.

The S.T.A.B.L.E Program is a review of neonatal stabilization practices to prepare an infant for transfer to a tertiary care facility. The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program is taught in a didactic-interactive format by experts in neonatal nursing, medicine, and respiratory care.

An educational chart review focusing on the neonatal stabilization care given to neonates transferred from your institution to UNM Children's Hospital.
Time: 1.0 to 1.5 hours

The Neonatal Outreach Program at the University of New Mexico Children's Hospital is responsible for educating medical care providers across New Mexico on the best methods and practices for well and ill newborn infant care. For over 20 years, we have organized and conducted a neonatal educational conference in Albuquerque, typically held in November. Speakers from across the country and from within our own community have presented on their expertise on various topics.
