In September 2020, approximately 570 students who attend Shiwi Ts'ana Elementary School participated in the 4-week Eat Smart to Play Hard (ESPH) program. UNM’s Social Marketing team collaborated with the Zuni Youth Enrichment Program (ZYEP) to help build a culturally relevant “fun book” and have students use it for the first time this fall. The ESPH program was implemented virtually through the PE and library class at the school. The ZYEP team made kits that contained the ESPH materials along with other fitness items and safely distributed them to the students via a drive thru pick-up at the school. Each week, students watched a fun book recipe and activity video demonstration made by the ZYEP team. At the end of the 4-week program, ZYEP hosted a virtual Fun Day for each grade to celebrate their participation.
