Why UNM is My Choice for Residency: I knew UNM was a good fit for me as soon as I got off my interview. I ended that fairly long and stressful day energized, and not at all drained. The people were interesting and genuine, and we got to hang out with the program coordinators between interviews and they were amazing (and we all know how the coordinators move things behind the scenes). New Mexico is a beautiful state with great weather, has a large enough population to see lots of diverse pathologies, and the locals here are extremely kind. The program has very few fellowships, which means working directly with attendings, and many attendings trained at UNM, which means they chose to come back after going to fellowship elsewhere. So far I have absolutely loved it here and it has been a good location for my wife as well, who is an outdoors educator.
