Why UNM is My Choice for Residency: I attended medical school in New Mexico and fell in love with the incredible people, culture, and natural beauty this state has to offer. From it's ancient Native American history and landscapes dotted with Pueblo ruins, to its historical landmarks and mix of Hispanic and Anglo cultural identities, New Mexico truly is a one-of-a-kind state. Not to mention the weather and outdoor scene is criminally underrated and insanely good!
Favorite Things About UNM: Being the only children's hospital in the state, we are lucky to be exposed to a variety of very rare pathologies, and have the opportunity to work with a unique variety of cultures and people. Very few other places provide such a unique training environment. There also has been cultivated a culture of fun, mutual respect, and lightheartedness amongst the residents, attendings, and staff here that makes being a resident here a blast!
Favorite Things About NM: Apart from enjoying the incredible New Mexican food, and eating the hottest chile I can find, I enjoy participating in many of the incredible outdoor activities here! Hiking, skiing, rock climbing, camping, as well as exploring New Mexico's many National Parks and Monuments. The Puebloan ruins of Chaco Canyon changed my life, and I will never forget seeing Carlsbad Caverns for the first time! I also enjoy participating in the plethora of unique cultural festivals that take place in this state: hot air Balloon Fiesta, Flamenco Festival, Green Chile Festival, and the Burning of Zozobra to name a few!
