Why UNM is My Choice for Residency: I choose to rank UNM because it was a University setting with a mid-sized-program feel. Because of the large catchment area, I knew I would be exposed to a variety of "zebras" and would be able to work alongside multiple sub-specialists to help work-up patients. At the same time, I also felt within the larger University setting I would still be able to get to know each of my co-residents as individuals.
Favorite Things About UNM: Work-life balance. The schedule allows for alternation between heavy inpatient blocks and less demanding blocks. Also, having time to get to know my awesome co-residents outside of work.
Favorite Things About NM: New Mexico has forest-like landscapes up in the mountains and desert landscapes in the valley. The variety within a 20-minute drive makes you feel like you are taking mini vacations all the time. While the summers may get warm, even on the hottest of days I can find shaded hikes on the tops of the mountains to enjoy.
