Why UNM is My Choice for Residency: I ranked UNM because it left a strong impression on me during interview day. My interviewers were genuinely interested in me. The UNM culture had a strong sense of collegiality and support. The residents got along well and hung out outside of working hours. It felt like I would be a good fit for UNM and UNM was a great fit for me. UNM's large catchment area as the only dedicated Pediatric hospital in the state meant that I would get sufficient volume, exposure, pathology, and excellent training. It's also a plus that it's closer to home!
Favorite Things About UNM: The people are definitely my favorite aspect so far. Everyone is really friendly, approachable, and supportive. This includes other interns, residents, and attendings. The graduated autonomy is done in a way where I feel like it is not rushed or too slow. There are always a lot of learning opportunities, either individually or as a group (rounds, didactics, etc.)
Favorite Things About NM: I'm enjoying exploring Albuquerque and NM. The NM food and green chile are really tasty. I like that there's something for everyone here, whether it's indoors or outdoors. It's also great that it's close to the west coast so it makes it easier for me to visit friends and family.
