Our laboratory conducts large-scale human studies on the molecular mechanisms linking harmful environmental exposures and psychosocial factors to human disease. By leading projects in collaboration with cohorts nationally and globally, the lab uses transdisciplinary methods, combining basic biological and qualitative science with advanced approaches in computational genomics, to identify novel disease mechanisms.
Active projects include investigations of DNA methylation, exosomes/extracellular vesicles, epitranscriptomics, and mitochondrial genetics as mechanisms of biomarkers of environmental exposures and disease. We investigate a range of environmental exposures (air pollution, climate variation, arsenic and metals, flame retardants, psychosocial stressors, etc.) and outcomes (neurodevelopment, ADHD, obesity, cardiometabolic disease, and Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias)
