Admissions

IMPORTANT: Applicants are reviewed on a rolling basis with interview visits held in April. Please complete your applications as soon as possible in order to be considered for the upcoming cohort.

Before you begin, it will be helpful to gather the following documents and information:

Documentation of degree credentials, if Ph.D. has been conferred

Dissertation title
Descriptions of:
- Any prior or current post-doctoral positions
- Your current research project
- Your overall research interests
- Long-term research goals
- Your previous teaching experiences
- Areas of interest in teaching
- Long-term goals as an educator
- How your participation in ASERT will enable you to achieve your career goals
- How your previous experiences have prepared you to participate in the ASERT program

Eligibility
Instructions

Required qualifications:

Must have received a Ph.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university in the United States, or its equivalent in another country, within one year of application to ASERT.
Be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or permanent U.S. resident.
Have a strong interest in developing outstanding teaching as well as research skills.

We especially encourage qualified applicants from underrepresented minority groups to apply.

Desired qualifications:

Interest in teaching at institutions that serve underrepresented minorities.
Demonstrated or expressed interest in team-based approaches to teaching.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Prior teaching experience (such as teaching assistantships or other forms of apprenticeship).

Health Science Center postdoctoral fellows not in the ASERT-IRACDA program may participate in ASERT with agreement of their research mentors. In such cases, fellows may gain teaching experience through numerous opportunities at UNM.
