Making our scientific figures accessible to readers with color-blindness (as many as 8% of males and 0.5% of females have some form of color-blindness). Since, as scientists, we want our data to be as clear and impactful as possible, it makes perfect sense that we should choose the best colors for presenting our findings.
Here are links to two websites that show how color-blind individuals see various colors and options to make your data accessible. The link from ASCB, shows data that we often see in papers we present in journal clubs. PI’s please discuss with your staff and trainees and strive to keep these guidelines in mind.
