The UNM College of Nursing Convocation is held at the University Arena (aka The Pit) on the corner of University Blvd and Avenida Cesar Chavez.
Checking in and picking up name cards
Upon arriving, each student will be provided with a "name card," which contains their name and any information that will be read about them when they walk across the stage.
Students must keep their name card with them. Students will hand it to the Marshal as they walk across the stage.
Students may only pick up their own name card. Picking up cards for friends can lead to confusion.
Student line up
After picking up name cards, students will wait to process onto the floor of the Arena.
Students will wait in the bleachers directly behind their check-in tables. The sections are labeled with the degree and program.
They will remain in their seats until directed by the Marshals.
Degree recognition
Students are seated on the area floor and once directed by the Marshals, they will stand and process across the stage to be recognized.
When approaching the stage, the Marshal will take the student's name card. This is how the Assistant Dean on the stage will know which name to call.
DNP or PhD students will then be hooded by their Chair.
Students will then proceed to shake hands with the Dean and have their picture taken by a professional photographer with the dean at this time. (Photos will be available for free on the College of Nursing graduation webpage a few weeks after the ceremony. )
After walking across the stage, students will receive a gift from the Office of Alumni Relations.
Students then continue to follow the instructions of the Marshals and sit back down until the end of the ceremony.
End of ceremony
Leadership and faculty on the platform will leave first
The Marshals will then cue the students when the ceremony ends and it is time to leave the arena floor.
