Advancing Midwifery Outcomes and Resiliency (AMOR) focuses on increasing the number of diverse nurse-midwives in New Mexico, enhancing community partnerships and preparing students to address a broader range of maternal health care needs. The combined effort of AMOR and UNM is to achieve this mission: educate nurse-midwives to care for rural, diverse and under-resourced communities. We will endeavor to improve the health and well-being of individuals and families through partnership and community collaboration. We will strive towards social justice and human dignity.
Nurse-midwifery students awarded AMOR funding will receive up to $25,000 - $40,000 annually, based on scholarship eligibility. The funds awarded to trainees will offset educational expenses, thus reducing student indebtedness upon graduation.
The University of New Mexico College of Nursing aims to provide upwards of 65 individual students.
Students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®). Additional requirements are still being evaluated. Recipients need to be enrolled full-time and progressing within the Nurse-Midwifery program.

A lot of people don’t know that midwives do more than attend births. We oversee contraceptive, gynecological, and menopause care as well as other stages of women’s and birthing people's health across the lifespan. The overall objectives of the AMOR grant will help the midwifery legacy continue in New Mexico and will ensure UNM continues to educate qualified Certified Nurse-Midwives to serve the state.
