The Health Sciences Center Chief Information Office (CIO) is responsible for managing all information technology and resources across the hospital, practice plan and academic units of UNM Health Sciences Center. It provides leadership, integrative management and direction for the HSC’s shared information systems, including Information Technology (IT) strategic planning, budgeting for information technologies and coordination, and integration of all HSC IT matters.
The Chief Information Office will assist with planning and implementing enterprise information systems to support both distributed and centralized clinical and business operations across HSC.
By building partnerships with HSC departments and user communities, the CIO helps improve awareness of IT functions that are critical to operations at the HSC. The HSC CIO has oversight of 200+ IT professionals across the HSC. These core areas include:
The HSC Chief Information Office also includes the Information Security Office. The HSC Information Security Office (ISO) is responsible for developing and supporting the HSC IT through IT security policies, analysis of business proposals, training, and incident response.
The HSC Applications Group provides specific web and applications-related services for the UNM Health Sciences Center. Contact the group by entering a request in Help.HSC.
Custom web-based database applications — The HSC Application group develops web-based database applications that support research and business efforts across the HSC. This includes all phases of application development: design, coding, implementation and maintenance. At this time the team has close to 70 database applications in use at the HSC.
Application support — The HSC Application group provides administrative support and planning for various HSC-wide applications such as Learning Central and SharePoint.
IT support for HSC departments — In some cases, the Applications group works with institutional level vendor applications that support core business processes. The level of support provided varies according the particular project. It includes but is not limited to:
The Systems Group is responsible for the health and availability of all server side resources. This group manages approximately 100 servers for UNM's north campus. They make sure that the servers are running optimally, with the latest approved patches.
