The Northern New Mexico Family Medicine Residency Program, established over 25 years ago in response to a critical need for physicians in rural New Mexico, has become a cornerstone of healthcare in Santa Fe and beyond. Affiliated with the University of New Mexico, the program directly addresses one of the highest primary care provider shortages in the country. Residents and faculty are dedicated to overcoming economic, social, and cultural barriers to provide accessible and compassionate care to the underserved.
CHRISTUS St. Vincent has also emerged as a leader in patient safety through its groundbreaking Clinician Directed Performance Improvement (CDPI) initiative. This team has developed innovative processes that have garnered national recognition, significantly enhancing patient safety and establishing the hospital a model for harm prevention across the CHRISTUS Health System.
In addition, through the research and clinical trials program at CHRISTUS St. Vincent, the Regional Cancer Center’s Native Health Navigator program was implemented in 2023 with grant funding through Gilead Sciences’ Toward Health Equity Oncology Grant™ program; it offers an innovative, personalized, and culturally informed approach to closing care gaps for Native Americans experiencing a cancer diagnosis.
The combination of a robust residency program, cutting edge clinical research and trials options for patients, and clinician-led performance improvement underscores CHRISTUS St. Vincent's dedication and visionary approach to advancing health outcomes for the people of New Mexico.
