I am from Wilmington Delaware and became interested in medicine after living in rural Nicaragua with the Poveda family through a program at Georgetown University in the early 80’s.  I was incredibly lucky to be admitted to the Primary Care Curriculum and graduated  from UNM in 1992.  I then spent three years in the desert at the University of Arizona Family Medicine Program before returning to New Mexico in 1995.  I have worked at La Familia Medical Center, Santa Fe’s community health center for over 30 years doing full spectrum family medicine.  I have been a PIE preceptor for  31 years, a volunteer teacher at the UNM ALSO course for over 15 years,  Family Medicine preceptor for third year students  for decades and have taught in the Doctoring 1 course for over 6 years.  I have continued working and teaching in obstetrics at the UNAN- Leon in Nicaragua and created a scholarship for fourth year UNM SOM students to do rotations abroad.  Several years ago out of curiosity I did the paperwork to become an Associate Professor at UNM and lo and behold they gave it to me.
