La Clinica del Pueblo de Rio Arriba (LCDP) has been providing care to patients for over
50 years. LCDP began offering services in 1969 to offer patients better and more
financially reasonable services. The area residents saw a need for medical services in
the area and therefore funded the clinic. LCDP is located in northern New Mexico with
the primary population served residing in the Chama Valley, which includes the towns
and villages of Canjilon, Cebolla, Tierra Amarilla, Los Ojos, Chama, and Lumberton. As
a rural clinic, the closest hospitals are over an hour away driving in each direction with
the closest hospitals being Pagosa Springs Medical Center in Colorado, Presbyterian
Espanola Hospital, and Taos Holy Cross Medical Center. The area served has a large
population of patients at or below the Federal Poverty Line that either have Medicaid or
utilize the sliding fee offered at LCDP if uninsured/underinsured. As an FQHC clinic,
LCDP offers Medical, Behavioral Health, and Dental services within HRSA’s scope.
LCDP also offers additional services to the community through our new Physical
Therapy department and staffs the only BLS certified EMS in the area with crews on
staff 24-7.
As a non-profit, LCDP is governed by the Board of Directors (BOD). The majority of
BOD members are elected at an annual membership meeting which allows the
community to elect their peers. Ultimately, as the Executive Director reports to the BOD,
LCPD is a community-owned clinic.
