Dr. Stogner is a native New Mexican. She completed her undergraduate degree at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. She grew up on the family ranch on the Cubero Land Grant, the middle child of 7. When she decided to go to medical school, she wanted to be a country doctor and work in rural New Mexico, and that is what she has done. She received her MD from UNM School of Medicine in 1983, completing a Family Medicine residency at Texas Tech Amarillo before returning to New Mexico. Dr. Stogner fulfilled a two year obligation with the National Health Service Corps in Las Vegas, NM, delivering care to the small communities of Wagon Mound and Roy. In 1988, she found her skills needed in Torrance County in a community health center in Estancia. This became home base for the next 35 years. Her time with Presbyterian Medical Services (PMS) has been spent as a solo physician for 20 years before becoming Medical Director over several clinics in Estancia. During this time, she has precepted medical, nursing, nurse practitioner, physician assistant and pharmacy students, as well as some Family Medicine residents. At the same time, she became quite active in the NM Chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians, serving in all leadership positions. Dr. Stogner has served at the national level of the AAFP in multiple positions developing policies for addressing Special Populations, Public Health and Science. Dr. Stogner has served on the UNM School of Medicine Alumni Association in various positions over the past 20+ years. Her service to the SOM expanded when she was appointed to the admissions committee to the BA/MD program when it was just getting off the ground. Now she is beginning her service with the AAFP Foundation as a Physician Trustee. She has had the opportunity to practice medicine in many locations around the world as she did “working“ vacations with National Geographic Expedition ships. Linda and Michael got married in medical school, and he has been at her side throughout this ever-changing and challenging world of medicine. She looks forward to helping in various capacities in the healthcare world…just not full-time for now. Thank you to all who help physicians do what they do; we could not do it without all the helping hands along the way.
