Having grown up amid the mountains stretching from Colorado through Chihuahua, Mexico, the Sierra Madre holds profound ancestral significance for me. New Mexico provides an ideal environment to advance my medical education and practice, where I intend to utilize my training and bilingual skills to serve the diverse communities of Albuquerque and Santa Fe. My upbringing, with half of my family undocumented, exposed me firsthand to the healthcare disparities confronting underserved populations. This experience fuels my determination to advocate for equitable healthcare access. My education in Cuba further sharpened my perspective on integrating medicine with social justice. My goal is to establish integrative healthcare initiatives tailored to underserved, migrant, and indigenous communities worldwide. I firmly believe that training in family medicine offers the optimal platform for me to realize these aspirations as a healthcare professional. The UNM Family Medicine program in Santa Fe strongly resonates with my interests in community health, global health, rural/wilderness medicine, and addiction medicine. I am dedicated to empowering communities, bridging healthcare disparities, and nurturing holistic healing and cultural appreciation. During my leisure time, I find solace in reading and reconnecting with nature through activities such as backpacking, hiking, cycling, rock climbing, fishing, and paragliding.
