Prior to medical school, I worked for several years as a global public health researcher and epidemiologist. While I loved working at a population level, I wished for more direct relationships with the people I was serving. With time, I saw that everything I had learned about social and environmental determinants of health, systems thinking, and cultural humility would also be an ideal foundation for caring for individuals and families, and eventually I decided to pursue medicine. As a doctor, I want to continue working towards a more effective and equitable health system while directly serving the needs of each patient, each family, in all stages of life. I have found all this, and more, in family medicine.
I was thrilled to match with the University of New Mexico, with its exceptional full-spectrum training, particularly in reproductive health, addiction medicine, and community/population health! I am so excited to serve the diverse population of New Mexico, and I know I will be well prepared to practice in a wide range of settings after residency. I cannot wait to join the amazing team at UNM, and to play a role in the bright future of both public health and primary care.
