I chose family medicine because of its emphasis on caring for patients of all ages with a variety of medical and social needs, building long-term relationships with patients and families, and providing preventive care. Through my experiences in medical school working at the New York State Department of Health and volunteering with refugee and immigrant families, I have come to understand the barriers that patients may face in gaining access to health care as well as the importance of working with local community organizations to improve access to care, especially in medically underserved areas. I look forward to training at UNM to care for and advocate for underserved patients as well as working with the local communities to provide lifelong health and wellness. My specific interests in family medicine include public/community health, reproductive care, pain management, and health advocacy which I look forward to exploring at UNM!
