Family medicine is like a moldable building material, some composite pliable to one’s limitless creativity. It is practical, adaptable, and accessible. Most importantly, it recognizes the individual, the environment, and the community that directly impacts medical decision making. When I went into medicine, I wanted to serve as a mediator and an advocate. I love problem-solving complex psychosocial cases, listening to a person’s story, offering resources and providing assistance to help achieve their short and long-term goals. UNM encompasses the extensive training I need in order to become the versatile, diversely-oriented doctor I strive to be.
