Family, Community, Language, and Multiculturalism define me and everything I do. My love to learn languages, immerse myself in different cultures, and engage & learn from those with different life experiences, led me on numerous international experiences – from Cuba to Senegal. Each experience taught me that my purpose is to be a Community-Based Global Physician who works within marginalized communities across the world. My mission is to create what I call a health complex; a space where we promote vitality for communities globally (ask me more!). The holistic, relationship-focused specialty of Family Medicine is the epitome of this physician. Our ability to care for all age groups, in diverse settings, requires a flexibility that creates dynamic individuals, which uniquely positions us to be change-makers. UNM captivated me for their interest and engagement in the community, and their rigorous broad-spectrum training with very strong OB experiences, which will further develop my global health toolbox. The relaxed, kind and familial nature of residents/faculty was evident and is something I greatly desired. Finally, the unique culture and landscape of New Mexico attracted me as I knew it would be a place where I would thrive, with plenty to do outside of the hospital!
