I chose The University of New Mexico (UNM) because the residents were by far the happiest. It is very much a work hard/play hard program with a great amount of volume and complexity. I also wanted to be close to the mountains for camping, hiking, skiing, fly fishing, etc. I really enjoy how close all of the residents are. I feel very fortunate for how enjoyable my days are working with great people. The complexity of cases that come in is astonishing. Being the only level 1 trauma center in the state brings in some interesting stuff. I also really appreciate how awesome the attendings are and how willing they are to let you do cases. My wife has found some life long friends in Albuquerque. She loves the proximity to the mountains and southern Colorado as well as the perfect weather here. She was able to find a job easily as a medical assistant, and we have a nice home with a yard for our German Shepherd. We have really enjoyed our time here so far.  My hobbies and interests outside of medicine include golfing, running, hiking, camping, skiing, and shooting.
