Kate Meriwether, MD, Associate Professor, received a degree in Biomedical Sciences from Michigan Technological University in 2004. After her MD degree in 2008 from Michigan State with extensive work in global medicine in Hispanic America and Africa, she knew she wanted to to work with underserved minority women and sought a residency in Washington, DC. As she wanted to work in an ethnically diverse, less dense population to complete her training, she completed a fellowship in Female Pelvic Surgery at the University of New Mexico in 2015. After 4 years practicing in Kentucky, she returned to New Mexico to renew her lifetime goal of serving this diverse community and learning about how health beliefs affect patient choice of therapy in the delicate personal problems of incontinence, prolapse, sexual dysfunction, and pelvic pain.
Tasha Serna-Gallegos, MD, Assistant Professor, graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in 2015. She is a subspecialist in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery and is a physician in Urology or Obstetrics and Gynecology who, by education and training, is prepared to provide consultation and comprehensive management of women with complex benign pelvic conditions, lower urinary tract disorders, and pelvic floor dysfunction. Comprehensive management includes those diagnostic and therapeutic procedures necessary for the total care of the patient with these conditions and complications resulting from them.
Sarah Jeney, MD, Assistant Professor, is an Obstetrics / Gynecology Specialist in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She graduated with honors from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2014. Having more than 8 years of diverse experiences, especially in OB/GYN.
Karen Taylor, Clinical Research Manager
I have worked in the Department of OB/GYN since 2010 and in research since 2014. I love what I do. We have such a great, hardworking team that cares about our patients and their quality of life. We are always striving to learn more so that patients can benefit from our research. We are thankful to all of our research participants!
Cassandra Darley, Clinical Research Supervisor
I started working with UNM OBGYN research in 2010 and I have gained all my knowledge and experience in research here. I have learned so much and love working in research because of my team, the department, and the divisions’ dedication to conducting research to help patients. My favorite things about research are interacting with the participants and potentially being a part of their experience to gain a better quality of life while having a goal to help them and others in the future.
Victoria Trujillo, Family Planning Research Coordinator
I am a proud graduate of UNM with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Criminology. In my free time, I like to play with my corgi, spend time with family, and find new eats around the city with my wife! My current goal is to attend UNM’s Anderson School of Management for my MBA. I am so grateful to work in a field that is dedicated to exploring more reproductive healthcare options. Research is such an essential aspect of the medical field, so being a member of a research team that is striving to provide better options for patients not only in New Mexico but all over the world is an honor!
Madison Gonya, Urogynecology Research Coordinator
I have been a part of UNM from my BA in political science, and my MHA (Masters of Health Administration) to now, continuing my career working in research here in the OB/GYN department. Research has been an integral part of my education, and professional career, and is so critical to health equity and improvement; both of which are my key motivating factors to pursue urogynecology research. I am so thankful to be a part of a research team that validates and strives to make equity and inclusivity among urogynecology and women’s health research a priority. When I am not working, I am likely writing in a coffee shop around the city, eating at a new place, or reading yet another book.
