Each year, UNM welcomes five future PM&R leaders into our categorical residency—the premier physical medicine and rehabilitation residency in New Mexico. We participate in the National Resident Matching Program, which means we attract the best and brightest PGY-1 residents each year.
Submit your application through the Electronic Resident Application Service (ERAS) by December 19. We conduct interviews on a rolling basis through early January. We require three letters of recommendation with your application. You may submit COMLEX scores as an alternative to USMLE scores if necessary.
While we recognize that most applicants use a generic personal statement for all applications, we are interested in learning about you personally and why you believe you are a good fit for our relatively new program in New Mexico, and not simply why you chose PM&R. Specifically address why you feel our program fits with your interests and goals, and how you feel you can contribute to our residency indicating your interest in UNM PM&R at the end of your generic personal statement.
For more information, please , Residency Program Coordinator, or call 505-727-4921.
Apply for one of seven residency positions at UNM. Train with PM&R experts at New Mexico's only academic medical center.
Invitations to interview are offered on a rolling basis beginning in early October. Interviews will be held several times per month from October through early January.
The program maintains an at-home call (pager call) policy. Residents average seven weeks of call during the PGY-2 year, and three weeks of call during the PGY-3 and PGY-4 years.
Yes. Residents are afforded one rotation during the PGY3-year and one rotation during the PGY4-year (five to six weeks each) for elective pursuits. See the Residency Program Overview.
Residents are required to participate in a minimum of two scholarly activities during the course of training. One project should be in the form of a quality/process improvement project. The other scholarly activity may take on a variety of forms including, but not necessarily limited to, traditional research, curriculum development or community outreach.
Residents receive regular support and mentorship throughout their training to encourage personal growth and success in their scholarly pursuits.
Residents receive 21 days (three weeks) of annual leave/vacation per year.
Vibrant yet cozy, Albuquerque welcomes you with a distinctive blend of diverse cultures, outdoor adventures and technological innovation.
