There are numerous excellent elective rotations offered within the Surgical Pathology Division at UNM. These include:
Additionally, a variety of elective opportunities in CP areas including hematopathology are offered.
These electives provide extra experience with the subspecialty-trained faculty and also include opportunities to work with interdisciplinary teams of radiologists, oncology surgeons, neurologists, dermatologists, gynecologists, and gastroenterologists.
If a resident wants to do an elective in a field that UNMH does not support a formal rotation, the Department will help to fund an away rotation. If not completely supported by the Department, funding for an away rotation can be sought through various funding sources within the University and professional societies, such as the College of American Pathologists. These rotations provide residents with opportunities to work in a program where they may be interested in pursuing a fellowship.
Lastly, this is a time to be creative! Residents have developed their own elective rotations, and we love to see new and inventive ways to spend this time.
