Introduction: I was born in Ecuador and have spent time in New Jersey, New Mexico, and North Carolina. All that said, I consider Albuquerque my home since I lived here for most of my childhood. I received my BS at Duke University where I studied neuroscience and music, and my medical degree at the Wake Forest School of Medicine.

Interests

• Pathology & Research Interests: I really enjoy hemepath, but I am still very much undecided. I am passionate about doing research on improving health care access for underserved populations and minorities in medicine.
• What do you like about living in New Mexico: New Mexico is my home! All my family lives here, and I felt it was time to come back to New Mexico after being away for almost a decade which is why UNM Pathology was the perfect choice for me. I’ve missed the view of the lovely Sandia Mountains every time I look outside. Having lived in many humid places, I have also come to appreciate the arid desert climate. I love the constant sunny days, the warm breezy nights, and the lack of traffic compared to bigger cities.
• Interests Outside of Pathology: Music is a huge part of my life. I have played the trumpet since I was 10 years old, and I like playing other instruments such as the guitar and saxophone. I eventually want to delve into the world of music production. I love composing music, dancing, and learning choreography. I am currently a “baby visual artist” trying to learn how to draw and paint. I enjoy baking and cooking, especially dishes from around the world that I’ve tried before and think, "Hmm, I need to try some of that again. Let me make some!"

Why I enjoy the pathology program at UNM

Aside from being home, I absolutely love how friendly and welcoming the faculty and my co-residents are. Our PD is incredibly supportive of our goals and a huge advocate for us trainees. There is a big emphasis on wellness which is great during a stressful time like residency. We also have very strong hemepath and forensic path programs, so the thought of staying here for fellowship is very tempting.
