Introduction: I'm Florencia, I immigrated from Mexico as a child and have proudly called New Mexico home ever since. I’m very family-oriented, with two young daughters who keep me grounded and inspired every day.

Interests

• Pathology & Research Interests: This early in my pathology career, I’m still exploring all the specialties within the field, though surgical and forensic pathology have captured my interest. I am keeping an open mind and am eager to gain new experiences in other areas.
• What do you like about living in New Mexico: I love New Mexico because it offers a unique opportunity to serve a diverse and often underserved population, which feels both meaningful and impactful. Beyond that, the state’s vast outdoor spaces are perfect for exploring, and it's been wonderful for the kids to enjoy nature and stay active. The blend of professional fulfillment and natural beauty makes it a special place for us.
• Interests Outside of Pathology: Outside of pathology, I l enjoy being outdoors to stay active and have fun—whether it’s at the zoo, hiking, swimming, or snowboarding. When I’m relaxing, I like watching cooking shows and catching up on shows like Saturday Night Live for a good laugh! 

Why I enjoy the pathology program at UNM

The program has been incredibly welcoming and supportive, helping me feel right at home. At the same time, it encourages independence and responsibility, allowing me to grow both personally and professionally. I like the general sign-out because it mirrors how many surgical pathologists practice. While it’s challenging to learn, it keeps things exciting and offers a great opportunity to develop a broad skill set.
