Mariam Posso, M.D.

Introduction: I was born and raised in Venezuela and moved to Bucaramanga, Colombia, for medical school. Since 2023, I’ve been living in Albuquerque with my husband, and it didn’t take long for this city to feel like home. This year, we added a puppy named Rawi to our family. 

Interests

• Pathology/Research Interests: I'm keeping an open mind and looking forward to exploring all the subspecialties during residency to see what fits best.  
• What do you like about living in New Mexico: The weather is great and there's a lot of sun. I've found a really kind and welcoming community here in Albuquerque, and there is always something to do. The Sandia sunsets are absolutely beautiful, and the Balloon Fiesta is honestly out of this world. 
• Interests Outside of Pathology: I love cooking Venezuelan food, especially arepas and tequeños (If you come to our program, you’ll definitely get to try them) I also enjoy creating content for my dog’s Instagram (@rawiyete), and I like hosting small gatherings with good food and board games at my apartment.

Why I enjoy the pathology program at UNM

When I rotated at UNM, I felt really welcomed. The residents and faculty were super kind, and I genuinely had a great time learning during my rotations. I really appreciate the protected didactic time, the supportive faculty, and the good vibes from my co-residents. As an IMG, I’ve also felt very supported here.
