Family Support Services & Community Engagement

At UNM, we recognize the tremendous diversity in New Mexico, and offer direct services in English and Spanish, and services with interpreter support for speakers of other languages.

The Section for Child Safety and Well-Being provides direct assistance and referrals to support services to aid families with maltreatment-related safety, investigative, and legal challenges:

• Assistance with temporary restraining orders
• Crisis intervention
• Referrals for financial, food and clothing assistance, and for legal aid
• Referrals for domestic violence services

The Section also provides assistance to families struggling with child behavior challenges. Check out our Parenting and Discipline Tip handout. 

As the only center in New Mexico with board-certified child abuse pediatricians, the Section for Child Safety and Well-Being serves as a specialty resource for the entire state. Our providers work closely with multidisciplinary teams throughout New Mexico, providing expert medical advice, case reviews, care coordination, expert legal testimony, and professional development.
