Why UNM is My Choice for Residency: I chose the UNM Pediatric Residency Program for a variety of reasons. Having attended medical school here, I very much value the excellent clinical training and the inviting atmosphere of the entire department. There is a true sense of community throughout the program. I was impressed by the support of the residents' wellbeing and the faculty are extremely generous with their time and expertise. I plan to practice medicine in New Mexico so having the opportunity to get to know the diverse patient population has been exceedingly valuable. UNM places a strong emphasis on patient advocacy and strengthening the communities in New Mexico so that patient care extends beyond what is provided within the hospital and clinics which is something I value highly.
