MSN Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Curriculum

With a mix of hybrid online and in-person classes, onsite simulation and clinical experiences, the PMHNP program is designed for you. You will learn to work collaboratively with other health care professionals to treat a range of psychiatric disorders. Clinical experiences help you apply what you have learned into practice. All while gaining skills that help you be an effective nurse practitioner.

First Term – Summer (9 credits)

NURS 501 Theoretical Foundations of Advanced Nursing - MSN Core Online (3)
NURS 503 Research in Nursing - MSN Core Online (3)
NURS 526 Advanced Pathophysiology - APRN Core (3)

Second Term – Fall (9 credits)

NURS 540 Advanced Health Assessment and Diagnostic Reasoning - APRN Core (3 credits – 2 didactic, 1 clinical (lab) and 50 lab hours)
NURS 543 Pharmacological Principles of Clinical Therapeutics- APRN Core (3)
NURS 584 Integrated Behavioral Health Care in Common Psychiatric Presentations (3)

Third Term – Spring (9 credits)

NURS 505 Health Care Policy, Systems & Financing for Advanced Practice Roles - MSN Core (3)
NURS 583 Psychotherapy, Behavior Change, and Health Promotion / Disease Prevention Across the Lifespan (3)
NURS 588 Advanced Practicum I (1 / 1 credit lab)

Fourth Term – Summer (6 credits)

NURS 585 Advanced Assessment, Neurobiology, and Psychopharmacology Across the Lifespan (3)
NURS 588 Advanced Practicum I (2 credits / 4 credit clinical )

Fifth Term – Fall (6 credits)

NURS 586 Diagnosis and Management of Adults for the PMHNP (3)
NURS 589 Advanced Practicum II (3 credits and 150 clinical hours)

Sixth Term –Spring (9 credits)

NURS 594 Advanced Practice Seminar (1)
NURS 597 Applied Examination (1)
NURS 587 Diagnosis & Management of Children & Older Adults for the PMHNP (3)
NURS 595 Fieldwork (5 credit clinical)

Upon completion of the curriculum, students finish with 48 credits, 650 clinical hours and 50 lab/simulation hours total.
