At the UNM Brain & Behavioral Health Institute (BBHI), we harness the efforts of our top UNM researchers, clinicians and educators along with our NM community of patients, families, advocates and providers to deliver state of the art research initiatives and education about brain and behavioral health.
Brain and behavioral disorders strike New Mexicans of all ages and from every background. Indeed, it would be difficult to find a New Mexican family that hasn't been touched by at least one of the numerous brain/behavioral disorders. These disorders are devastating to families and are some of the most common and costly to society. At UNM and BBHI, we work together to improve brain and behavioral health for all New Mexicans
Our vision is to become the leading center in the Southwestern and Rocky Mountain States region for brain and behavioral health, through comprehensive research, education and community partnership.
Our mission is to improve the brain and behavioral health of all New Mexicans, across the lifespan.
Our most important value is our commitment to improving the brain and behavioral health of all New Mexicans. The Institute will advance brain and behavioral health across the lifespan, from infancy to adolescence, young adulthood to mid-life, and through aging by developing new strategies of prevention, early detection, resilience, recovery and repair. The full spectrum of research (pre-clinical, community and translational) will be valued in these efforts. We recognize the importance of all forms of diversity, as well as the need for inclusiveness in our scientific and clinical disciplines, including the voice of community partners in our efforts. The BBHI will be established on a framework of engagement, respect and research and clinical excellence. At all times we will act with integrity and professionalism.
