Education

The Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology plays an important role in Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) at The University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque. MGM is responsible for coordinating the immunology content in the Foundations of Medical Sciences block in Phase I of the UME curriculum. MGM faculty give the majority of lectures in this course, serve as tutors during problem-based learning sessions, and facilitate team-based learning sessions.

Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program (BSGP)

MGM faculty participate in all aspects of the BSGP, including serving as faculty mentors, participants in the BSGP curriculum, and members of the BSGP steering committee.

Departmental Works-in-Progress Seminar Series

MGM has a twice-monthly works-in-progress (WIP) seminar series in which students and post-docs from the department can present their research in a lively, supportive and interactive environment. The WIP is held at 3 p.m. on the second, fourth and fifth Monday of each month.

Immunology/Virology Journal Club

MGM faculty, post-docs and students participate in weekly Immunology and Virology Journal Clubs during the academic year. Interested? Contact Dr. Paulus Mrass (Immunology) or Dr. Michelle Ozbun (Virology) for more details.
