Determine what forms and protocol procedures your student will need by downloading and reading the ISEF International Rules & Guidelines (PDF) book. If the project involves humans, animals, or hazardous chemicals or activities, get the ISEF forms and procedures from our Forms Finder page.
If you need to set up your own local SRC/IRB Review Board, please make sure that someone from your committee attends the Mandatory Bootcamp Workshop in September/October AND that you submit a Local SRC/IRB Membership Roster no later than early February.

If your students' projects require prior approval from the Regional SRC/IRB/ACUC, please fax or email the appropriate protocol paperwork to our office by the stated deadline. The earlier the better.
ALL VERTEBRATE ANIMAL PROJECTS MUST BE REVIEWED BY THE REGIONAL ANIMAL CARE AND USE REVIEWERS HERE AT UNM FOR PRIOR-APPROVAL (before the start of data collection) EVEN IF YOUR SCHOOL HAS ITS OWN SRC/IRB COMMITTEE.

Choose your allotted number of Regional Qualifiers. These are the winning students who will advance to our regional Research Challenge competition.
Call Erin Garcia, Program Specialist, at (505) 277-4916 to determine how many slots your school has been allotted for the Central New Mexico Regional Research Challenge.

Submit the TRANSMITTAL FORM to the STEM Office via the online form. This is the process where you tell us who the Regional Qualifiers will be.
Ensure that all Regional Qualifiers complete their ONLINE ENTRY FORM by the February deadline as well.

Your students will log into our site at: Student Online Registration. Make sure they have a printed copy of the registration. The Online Entry Form includes the receipt confirmation statement at the bottom indicating they will be receiving an email. If they have a red error message at the bottom of the form, that means their entry has NOT been received and they need to correct whatever has been entered incorrectly and click SUBMIT again.

Ensure that all students are aware of the Research Challenge (science fair) logistics, dates and times.
Approximately 10-14 days prior to the Regional Research Challenge, students will be sent, via email AND postal mail, a package of information including what they need to know about project setup, judging, parking, and awards. Teachers will be sent the same information via email.
