The HSSC is committed to engagement beyond the classroom - connecting Health Sciences students with the broader university community, the state of New Mexico, and the health professions field at large. The Council participates in tabling events, legislative advocacy, campus wellness initiatives, community fundraising, and health professions outreach throughout the academic year.

The HSSC represents Health Sciences students in civic and legislative settings, including participation in UNM Day at the New Mexico State Capitol during the legislative session.
The Council participates in tabling events including Student Organization Day on Main Campus and the Health Professions Symposium, a statewide conference for students pursuing careers in the health professions.
The HSSC hosts Coffee & Bagels gatherings twice each semester and assists with the HSC Food Pantry to support student basic needs and wellbeing.
This semester, we partnered with GEAR Up (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness), which is a program for high school students in underserved areas who want to pursue higher postsecondary education, in conjunction with the Department of Education.
The HSSC raises funds for the HFCC each year to support children going to summer camp, purchasing bikes, and encouraging exercise and participation in outdoor activities to promote better health for children in New Mexico. We have raised funds through charity 5k rases and hope to hold an additional field day event in the spring of 2023.
