Health Careers Academy is an intense and rewarding multi-week summer program for current high school sophomores and juniors offered at local sites around New Mexico. This program offers unique experiences around the state, combining experiential learning with academic enrichment related to health careers. The programs are designed to enhance math, science, language arts, and critical thinking skills while exposing students to health and science-related professions, test preparation, and service learning.
HCA is currently offered in five regions of New Mexico. Applicants are encouraged to apply for the program in the region where they reside. For specific locations, schedules and eligibility, see the program site list below.

Location: In person at the University of New Mexico
Specific Eligibility: Open to Albuquerque and Surrounding Areas, must be able to commute to UNM daily
Summer Schedule: June 1, 2022 – July 1, 2022, M-F, 9am-3pm and Saturday, June 25, 2022
2022 Applications: Summer 2022 application cycle opened February 15, 2022 and the application deadline has been extended to April 15, 2022. Accepted participants will be notified in late April.
Note: All participants must comply with The University of New Mexico's Covid-19 policies.
Location: Hybrid, option for either in-person at UNM Health Sciences Rio Rancho Campus OR virtual participation
Specific Eligibility: Open to Sandoval County students only.
Summer Schedule: June 6-24, 2022
2022 Applications: Summer 2022 application cycle opened February 22, 2022 and the application deadline has been extended to April 15, 2022. Accepted participants will be notified in late April.
Location: In-person, based in Las Vegas
Specific Eligibility: Open to current sophomores and juniors from San Miguel, Guadalupe, Mora, Colfax, Harding and Union Counties
Summer Schedule: June 6 – July 15, 2022, M-F, 9am - 3pm
2022 Applications: Summer 2022 application cycle opened February 15, 2022 and the application deadline has been extended to April 15, 2022. Accepted participants will be notified in late April.
Location: Residential, based at Santa Fe Indian School
Specific Eligibility: Open to current sophomores and juniors students enrolled at Santa Fe Indian School
Summer Schedule: June 6 – June 30, 2022, M-F, 8:30am-3:30pm

Location: Hybrid, virtual daily sessions with in-person training components based at San Juan College
Specific Eligibility: Open to current sophomores and juniors in San Juan and McKinley Counties and nearby areas of Navajo Nation.
Summer Schedule: June 6, 2022 – July 1, 2022, 8:30am-3:00pm
