Gain clinical experience working with rural and/or underserved populations in the New Mexico Clinical Education Program (ClinEd) as you prepare to apply to the University of New Mexico Health Science Center health professions programs. During this multi-week summer opportunity, you will shadow clinicians at a rural and/or underserved primary care facility or community health center, become more familiar with community health topics, and learn more about the application process for the health professions programs.
ClinEd is based at the UNM Health Sciences campus in Albuquerque, NM. The clinical shadowing component of the program takes place at various sites throughout the state. During your time in this program, you can expect the following:
“Spending six weeks in a small rural town during the Clinical Education Program made me aware of the health disparities in small rural New Mexican communities. The biggest impact that is immediately felt in my community is that I am filling a cultural void with Spanish-speaking individuals, especially females.”
