Professional Achievement for Transdisciplinary Health (PATH) Emerging Scholars Program

PATH Emerging Scholars Program is a one-week program at the University of New Mexico for current high school juniors and seniors. The program is designed to prepare future leaders in healthcare and health research who are dedicated to improving the lives and opportunities of people of color in New Mexico and across the globe. This experience exposes, engages, and inspires African American youth and other underserved youth from all over New Mexico to pursue science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and health (STEAM-H) careers through programs and partnerships with local organizations. Participants will access strong STEAM-H education and career exploration opportunities.

The PATH Experience

• Identify the major social determinants of health across communities of color.
• Explore current events and issues in health through interdisciplinary perspectives.
• Analyze the concept of health equity and recognize the gaps in health equity as it relates to clinical and non-clinical sectors.
• Understand and develop the skills, tools, resources, and relationships, that will impact your undergrad career success.
• Stipend upon completion of the program.

• Community Research

PATH Expectations

• Commit to the full one-week program, plus a one-day orientation
• Participants must comply with The Pathfinder- UNM Student Handbook. Failure to comply with campus policies regarding conduct, academic honesty, and lawful behavior may result in dismissal from the program. 

PATH Eligibility

• Be a New Mexico resident with a valid SSN or ITIN (for payment purposes only)
• Interest in pursuing a health career that addresses inequities in the African American community and other communities of color.
• Rising Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors
• Demonstrated leadership
