We look forward to seeing you at the National Regional Anesthesia and Perioperative Ultrasound Conference in Albuquerque, NM in October 2024.
The next National Regional Anesthesia and Perioperative Ultrasound Conference will be October 5, 2024. Please see below for more information about the conference, accommodations, and registration.
The Ultrasound Guided Regional Anesthesia experience offered at our conference will guide providers of all skill levels on best practices for both complex and innovative nerve blocks but also for “bread and butter” type nerve blocks. The conference is formatted to allow for lectures to be immediately followed by small group ultrasound scanning in live subjects to practice what was just covered in the focused lecture. The small group environment encourages meaningful Q&A, plenty of time for hands on skill practice, and a low-pressure environment for providers to engage with conference educators.
Take a look at the 2024 Agenda!
Nationally, educational initiatives have been introduced in order to train medical students, residents, other learners in the expanding use of Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS.) The primary focus has been the incorporation of multi-modality US education (including lectures, simulation, etc..) into accredited residency training programs. However, similar comprehensive educational initiatives for practicing physicians in general and anesthesiologists, in particular, are lacking.
Lack of proficiency in perioperative US in faculty has clinical, educational, and fiscal consequences. First, as a technique for procedural guidance and diagnosis, it affects the quality and safety of patient care. Second, because it is determined by the faculty’s proficiency level in US, a trainee’s exposure to clinical use of US is intermittent and of variable quality. Finally, there are fiscal consequences in that it affects reimbursement and billing when used for regional anesthesia or vascular access. By introducing a basic level of proficiency for all Anesthesia Attendings in perioperative US, this educational program is a value-added proposition for the faculty, trainees, and patients.
