Office of Quality and Safety 

The Office of Quality and Safety’s mission is to establish the UNM Department of Internal Medicine as a national leader in academic medicine by providing proficient, evidence-based care to our patients at the highest levels of quality and safety.  

Quality and safety efforts permeate our divisional structure, resident/fellow/faculty educational efforts and clinical locations.

The Office of Quality and Safety offers multiple resources for Department of Internal Medicine staff to help improve the quality and safety of patient care. 

Quality 

Health care professionals can track performance of health care quality through the free resource Why Not The BestIt enables organizations to compare their performance to that of peer organizations against a range of benchmarks over time. The site is created and maintained by The Commonwealth Fund, a private foundation working toward a high-performance health system. 

TheAmerican Society for Quality lists quality tools help identify causes, understand processes, collect and analyze date, generate ideas and more. Templates and tools are available for use and download. 

Intermountain Healthcare provides innovative research, including in many thousands of studies in over 20 specialized clinical areas. 

Safety 

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement offers improvement resources including ideas, tools, measuring guides, videos and more.
