Domenici Hall's cutting-edge and centralized research cores provide an array of services dedicated to furthering brain research.
The cores are open to all scientists interested in using neuroimaging tools to discover the mechanisms of brain functions in health and disease. We welcome brain and behavioral health scientists from University of New Mexico and beyond to join our exciting international research environment.
The Clinical Core is a fundamental component of the Center for Brain Recovery and Repair (CBRR) established by an NIGMS Center for Biomedical Research Excellence (CoBRE) grant.
The Clinical Core is located in Domenici Hall on UNM’s North Campus strategically located in the very heart of the UNM neuroscience research community. This core provides facilities, resources and expertise to support clinical neuroscience investigations.
It includes a neuropsychological assessment library, clinical research assessment rooms, cutting-edge technology (e.g., tDCS, EEG), well-trained research assistants/psychometrists, as well as training to support the design and implementation of clinical neuroscience investigations.
The Clinical Core provides a convenient, participant-friendly point-of-service, adjacent to basic research, neuroimaging, and clinical medicine facilities.

Our core facilities scheduling is ran through iLabs. If you or your student needs an iLabs account to use our facilities, please contact the Clinical Research Supervisor, Darbi Gill, to have an MOU created, and an iLabs account set up for use.
The Pre-Clinical Core Facility houses resources for automated behavioral testing, including touchscreen inputs and gait analysis tools.
The resources at the Pre-Clinical Core include automated animal tracking systems, learning and memory tasks, motor and gait analysis systems, in-vivo single and multiphoton imaging, optogentics, in-vivo electrophysiology, histology, and 3D and 4D image analysis.

The Preclinical Imaging Core includes an actively shielded 7.0T MRI scanner (Bruker BioSpin) dedicated exclusively to animal imaging.

The Preclinical Imaging Core houses a 7.0T 40 cm bore MR scanner for both structural and functional MRI in animal models. This actively shielded Bruker NMRI system is equipped with two distinct water-cooled gradient sets:
Both gradient sets can tolerate the high duty cycles required for fast imaging techniques like Echo Planar Imaging (EPI).
The NMRI system is equipped with Bruker AVANCE I electronics located in a separate room adjacent to the magnet. The AVANCE system consists of waveform generation, receiver, and digitizer units, and a 64-bit CPU for data pre-processing.
The Preclinical Imaging Core can provide access to a variety of coils. All coils are compatible with fast imaging methods (EPI, DTI, and fMRI).
A dedicated workstation is available for data transfer and offline data processing.
The Preclinical Imaging Core is well equipped for animal handling.
