UNM offers a comprehensive surgical simulation curriculum. The Simulation program is lead by Assistant Program Director Lauren McClain, MD and includes all aspects of general surgery with both technical skills-based training as well as complex situational training modules. We are constantly updating our curriculum to provide useful and applicable resources to our residents throughout their residency. Additionally, we offer a robotic surgery curriculum that upon its completion allows residents to be fully certified for independent robotic surgery privileges after graduation. This comprehensive program enhances our residents clinical and technical skills producing both well-rounded and technologically savvy surgeons. There is dedicated and protected time every Thursday afternoon for simulation. We do the sessions in small groups or by class to maximize teaching and learning and partner with multiple medical device companies to offer cutting edge training to our surgical trainees.
