Participant Prerequisite: ABA diplomat seeking MOCA® recertification
ASA Clarification of High-Fidelity Simulation Requirement
The goal of the American Board of Anesthesiology-required simulation activity is to enhance and document participation in Practice Performance and Improvement (PPAI) activities. Our Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology simulation programs focus on presenting scenarios designed to help participants identify areas and projects for their PPAI programs. A major portion of the simulation process is dedicated to a detailed debriefing regarding the action, decisions and processes arising in each scenario. Peer-to-peer guided debriefing will occupy at least 30 percent of the educational process. Debriefings may also include handouts and/or brief presentations on key clinical issues.
The Simulation Education Program of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine is an American Society of Anesthesiologists, (ASA) endorsed simulation center. We will be presenting advanced clinical scenarios for small (3-6) groups of practitioners with the goal of fulfilling the ABA Endorsed Center Simulation Criteria under the MOCA 2.0® program.
All simulation programs will take place at the Interprofessional Healthcare Simulation Center (IHSC).
This simulation course fulfills one requirement of the ABA’s Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology Program Part IV. Please consult the ABA website for a list of all MOCA® requirements.
