Research Administration Forum and Training (RAFT)

Research Administration Forum and Training (RAFT) was initially established in 2006 as the education arm of the Fiscal Research Services Working Group (FRSWG).  The name was changed in 2014 to reflect a broader scope of support and training specifically geared toward the UNM Health Sciences Center research community. RAFT Sessions include updates and training in the areas of grants administration, research compliance, research billing, human resources and other topics of relevance to research administration.

A RAFT Steering Committee, facilitated by the Office of Research, meets regularly to foster communications and to examine, address and identify ways to improve the research administration process. The Steering Committee is comprised of representatives from the Office of Research, HSC Budget Office, Pre-Award, Contract and Grant Accounting, Unrestricted Accounting, and UNM Medical Group. Topics for the training sessions are either generated by the Steering Committee or suggested by attendees.

To suggest a topic to be presented at a future RAFT session, please email James MacFarlane at
