The purpose of the HSC Conflicts of Interest (COI) Committee is to protect the integrity of research, clinical, and education relationships by identifying and resolving financial interests/outside professional activities that may result in any conflicts of interest. The Committee considers that most conflicts can be successfully resolved or managed as to not impede activities. The COI Committee also advises on whether potential outside professional activities may create any conflicts of interest. The COI Committee meets once per month.
The Management of Conflicts of Interest (MCOI) Committee is responsible for the evaluation of management plans put in place by the HSC Conflicts of Interest committee. The Committee evaluates at least annually the: 1) appropriateness of the management based upon severity of the conflict; 2) consistency of the management plan with other management plans with similar conflict issues; and 3) investigator compliance with the terms and conditions of the management plan. The MCOI Committee meets 1-2 times per year.
The Institutional Conflicts of Interest (ICOI) Committee determines whether financial interests of UNMHSC institutional officials may affect or reasonably appear to affect institutional processes. The ICOI Committee meets once per year.
The Committee considers that most conflicts can be successfully resolved or managed as to not impede activities.
There are three methods by which the Committee reviews a potential conflict:
Committee review: The individual's potential conflict which has never been reviewed by Committee deliberation or a potential conflict previously reviewed that now has additional elements of complexity.
Administrative review: The individual's potential conflict that has been previously reviewed by Committee deliberation that remains unchanged or a potential conflict that has one element of complexity.
Electronic vote: The individual's potential conflict that was tabled during Committee deliberation due to insufficient information can later be voted on electronically by Committee members after information is received so as to not delay a decision until the next Committee meeting.
