Compassionate, evidence-based care for critically ill newborns
Since its inception in 1971, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Division of Neonatology at UNM's Children's Hospital has been committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care for critically ill newborns and support for their families. The state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the University of New Mexico is the only level IV NICU in the state of New Mexico and encompasses 36 level IV beds and 16 level II beds. We are committed to the School of Medicine’s mission to not only provide excellent care to New Mexico’s most vulnerable patients, but to also provide superior training for young physicians and investigators.
The Division of Neonatology is part of the NICHD Neonatal Research Network, which has studies focused on prematurity, prenatal and postnatal inflammation, neuroprotective strategies, and developmental outcomes of infants born extremely preterm.
Our division provides many different services and programs that benefit the newborns and families from around the state.
